Quo Vadis Air Malta? Fenech has ‘very productive’ meeting with EU Commissioner

Or should we say “very vague”.

The only comments our Finance Minister Dr Tonio Fenech gave to the Times of Malta were these:

“The European Commission is currently examining the Restructuring Plan submitted by the Maltese Government and is expected to launch the formal State aid investigation procedure once its review of the Restructuring Plan is concluded,”

and…

“the airline’s new management is on the right track, although there are many hurdles which still need to be overcome.”

Awesome. So our Finance Minister holds a meeting with EU Commissioner Joaquin Almunia about the dire straits our national airline is in, and this was all he has to say and account for to the general public?

What kind of ‘meeting’ was this? A 30-second chat in some corridor?
Would Dr Fenech be so blunt and vague, basically speechless, had the outcome really been positive?

I’ll leave that for you readers to judge.
